Survey Shows Overall Drug Use Down Among Florida Youth

TALLAHASSEE – Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeff Kottkamp and Office of Drug Control Director Bruce Grant announced significant long-term reductions in drug use among Florida's middle and high school students while releasing the results of the 2010 Florida Youth Substance Abuse Survey. The Florida Office of Drug Control and partners in national and state agencies, law enforcement organizations, anti-drug coalitions, schools, and families are succeeding by addressing substance abuse prevention as a collective responsibility. Florida Receives Major National Grant Award for Substance Abuse Prevention

TALLAHASSEE – Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeff Kottkamp announced today that Florida is the only state in the nation to receive a 2010 Prevention Partnership for Success Grant. The five year $11.5 million award will fund substance abuse prevention planning and evidence based practices at the grassroots level within six of Florida's most populous counties. Read more.

TALLAHASSEE – Lieutenant Governor Jeff Kottkamp praised the Florida Legislature’s final passage of a system that blocks the sale of excessive amounts of precursor drugs used to make methamphetamine. SB 1050, sponsored by State Senator Cary Baker, and its House counterpart, HB 1071, sponsored by Representative Alan Hays, was the result of an extensive collaborative effort between the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Florida Retail Federation, the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, the Consumer Health Products Association and the Florida Office of Drug Control.
