Organizational Development

Growing and sustaining your organization, and its ability to provide leadership in changing your community, is very much like growing leadership in individuals. It takes considerable time and effort and does not happen by accident. It is important to take the time to build organizational leadership, rather than dependence on one or two key individuals. Strong community coalitions continue to provide leadership regardlessof changes in leadership in any of their member organizations.

Planning is essential in order to gain measurable progress. The key steps are:

• clear understanding of the vision and mission of your organization
• assessing the organization’s skills and abilities
• assessing the organization’s current leadership role in the community
• developing and implementing a sustainability plan
