About the Office of Drug Control

The Florida Office of Drug Control, located in the Executive Office of the Governor, collaborates with the Office of Planning and Budget to implement a statewide strategy that utilizes a three-pronged approach of

to limit the devastation of substance abuse in Florida’s diverse communities.  The office uses Florida’s preeminent drug prevention infrastructure to accomplish its top priority:

"protect our youth from substance abuse."

The Office of Drug Control also works closely with the law enforcement community to continually monitor the evolving drug threat to our state and acts as a catalyst with federal, state and local law enforcement to reduce the supply of illegal drugs in Florida.  The office assists agencies and providers who contribute critical and often life-saving substance abuse treatment services. 

The Office of Drug Control advances the Governor’s Drug Control Strategy by:

• Advising the Governor and the Legislature on substance abuse trends in the state, the status of current substance abuse programs and services, and the funding of these programs in relation to the implementation of the state strategy.
• Serving as a direct liaison with state agencies, other state governments, the federal Office of National Drug Control Policy, federal agencies, and the private sector to secure funding and other support for Florida’s drug control effort.
• Coordinating drug control efforts with federal, state, and local agencies, as well as the private sector.
• Providing information to the public about the problem of substance abuse as well as substance abuse programs and services that are available.
• Continually refining the Florida drug control strategy and the attendant funding initiatives, linking state agencies to the state drug control effort.
